Thinking twice
Thursday, March 29, 2012

I was thinking about judgements this morning. It was some sort of aftermath from a dream that I can't remember, some sort of residual effect. Anyway, I guess that isn't really important.

Some people say that they, unlike others, don't judge other people. It puts them in some sort of moral high ground, because it seems as if they are these wonderful, bigger persons. I'm afraid I have been guilty of making the same mistake.

When we say we don't judge, it means we don't form an opinion about others based on what we see or know, because we assume that information is incomplete. But is that really the case? We have been engineered to form opinions and pass judgements since young. We always hear "See that kid littering? How irresponsible!" We then pass judgement that he's irresponsible. "Did you hear how she stole him away from her? What a slut!" Judgement passed once again.

Over time, we learn to translate behaviour into personality traits immediately. It is impossible, or incredibly difficult, to veer away from that. So when people say they don't judge, they still do it. They simply withhold judgement from others, or give them the benefit of the doubt. But that doesn't make these people non-judgemental.

"Maybe he littered unconsciously. I'd never know, so maybe I shouldn't say he's irresponsible. Perhaps he was also a willing party in this whole relationship business. Then she isn't really a slut, is she? I would understand." See? Within these lines, judgements have already been passed, just never made known.

It is sad that we never will be non-judgemental, because we have learnt to be so since our childhood days. It puts one at a far worse disadvantage if they aren't able to judge. It is a tradeoff that we have to acknowledge is pretty damn worth it.

Chances are the next time you decide you're not judging, you're wrong. So the next best thing we can do, is probably to give others the benefit of the doubt. I think it's human enough.

Do you?

So I realized today, that there are some people you hang out with and as you do, you grow to like them more. They seem to know you, you chat till the cows come home, you thrive well in each other's simple company. And that's great. It's what I thought happens most of the time, but I was.. wrong.

For some, their flaws start showing once you hang out with them more. A tinge of annoyance. An exasperated moment. Of all, I think I personally hate braggarts the most. The thing is, sometimes, the person in question doesn't realize it. It seeps from everything they say like poison. It irks me to no end. Dude, you think you're so smooth? You just look so silly to me right now.

So bloody cheesy posting lyrics, did it when I was sixteen. But since I love this song so much, all considerations can be pushed aside.

你心爱的我真的 Sorry I’m a bad boy
离开也是为你好 You’re a good girl
随着时间的流逝 我只会让你更失望
Baby don’t leave me
I know you still love me
别这样 我承认 我需要你
My lay lay lay lay lady
My lay lay lay lay lady

They are so brillant. The whole song is so perfect, and spells a good story. I'm in.

Speak now

School has kept me busy enough to account for the short hiatus. I just realized my posts don't say the date I posted it! My last post was on March 5th. That's a whole two weeks ditching this space. I wished I had the time and mood to capture the more emotional moments in my life as and when but those moments are simply too fleeting or rather, just never came to fruition because I am a.too busy or b.just procrastinating. b is honestly a perpetual, ongoing process. I am defined by procrastination.

Honestly can't wait for this semester to end and yay summer break! Actually I have no summer break because I'd be spending ten weeks of it on internship. Going back to mbs has gotten me fairly excited. It'd be interesting to see how things work in another department (and I'm going to be in the nice smelling museum all the time, mmhmm) and I can't wait to see all my colleagues and familiar faces again! The skypark lifeguards, security folks, alex, sebastian, kunal, sampan boys, and even the wanton mee uncle at rasapura omg. Oh and the VM people. And Michelle! Miss all of them and work like crazy.

Seriously when I was working there and going up to the SkyPark day after day I obviously got tired of it really quickly, but MANNN it was only after I started school again that I miss being able to do that. What would I give to skip school, escape the morning commuting crowd and walk the skypark any time I want, step into Sky on 57, see chef jason and being offered a bowl of (the best) laksa or foie gras xlb... Life was good. I truly suspect its a communications thing, cause I doubt I'd have nearly the same experience in museum marketing.

I really miss being there. And I am very fortunate, to be able to go back to intern in a different department without the hassle of an interview.. Truly thankful.

To Sebastian.. who unfailingly reminds me every day of his resemblance to siwon. And texts me to go to his office, only to show me suju videos. And ALWAYS sits in my chair and adjusts it to some funky position.

To the unwinding k-box session where wani sang sexyback, and tim and daniel graced us with their manly vocals to.. I don't wanna miss a thing.

To the most memorable time when they got me flowers and did a whole load of stuff for me (and were so worried I was too upset)

To my incredible michelle who always prepares breakfast, brings her adorable bunnies for us to play with and is just such a lovable woman <3

To the adorable VM boys.. They are ridiculous but I love them. Jeff! Miss having mozza together.

To the times where we work hard and pull off events

To moments of (mild) partying

To the best partner I could have wished for. You are incredible and I don't know how I would have survived without you

To a wonderful team of colleagues, ex-interns..

To dear Wani, who insists that 3 inch heels are flats. How not to love her? And I will be able to see her baby since she's delivering in may! The baby confirm super pretty boy, indian and british! Good mix of genes coming from such pretty parents x

To Jeff, I miss your panda specs, bowties and middle fingers. Really cannot judge you by your cover. Waiting to see your pink shirt. And Marvin.. how I miss bumping into you while you run out for a smoke haha.

To our unforgettable farewell, where they made us "say a few words" and obviously we ended up crying. Idiots. And how we crashed the titanic exhibition, treated it like our own, took photos shamelessly even tried to ask the security guard help us take a picture (its not allowed in the exhibition) to which he solemnly responded "I cannot be part of this" and we laughed our heads off while he looked like he wanted to report us but was torn since we're staff hahaha ridiculous

To Specimen 1. The silly things comms people do.

To Jon, who is of the most selfless people I have ever met. To his fondness of scaring girls and subsequently knocking into the glass display in the museum and setting off the alarm.. Good job.

There's so many other things and people and events that I have grown to love and miss now.. Just way too much to cover.

Sigh I love all of you.
