Making my point

It is that time, to say that damn, time has passed so wickedly fast. In just the blink of an eye eight weeks has passed and I am almost at the end of my internship! While this part of me is extremely tired of the 9-6 hours and early morning train rides, for the most part I really feel like I'm already an working adult, exactly like T said. I've been working full time for almost a year, which is a really long time. The cubicle and desktop for me really holds no allure, but the interaction with colleagues and meeting new people just creates this constant flow of positive, positive energy that works for me so well. I keep wondering what it would be like to work in another place besides MBS, where my work environment would be entirely different. The dynamism of being in hospitality and the forefront of all things happening makes me always excited about work. I like being able to step out of my office and not see other office ladies and men swarming the streets, like in Shenton Way. Like ants. Stepping out of my office, I see people. Tourists with their hats, maps in hand, asking for directions. Locals coming here for lunches and dinner with their family and friends, checking in for a staycation. Students touring for a out-of-school trip, squealing in excitement. Delegates in suits, easily identifiable with their lanyards, briefcases in hand. Comrades, walking around the property, or stationed at their workstations. I see this bustling resort sustained by a group of dedicated, capable individuals all working together in a big, 9000 strong team.

Almost a month ago, we threw opening parties for Harry Potter, and witnessed for ourselves the madness of fans. You'd think their passion would be completely separate from us, but its surprising how it rubs off on us. We may not understand the fervour, but we appreciate it. Every morning when I receive a daily digest email from google alerts, I read blogposts about excited visitors reviewing their museum experience and feel good that our marketing efforts have succeeded. Before I joined the team, I thought we can rest easy because c'mon, its Harry Potter. Do we really need to sell the exhibition? But we do. There are only so many fans, who are bound to visit during the first few weeks. For the rest of the time the exhibit is in the museum, the interest and crowd doesn't sustain itself. Long before I came in, marketing plans have been crafted and laid out to ensure the hype is always there. And that's quite amazing in itself. So much I don't know, so much I have to learn.

So this time when I leave, it'd be doubly hard. When I ended my internship with communications last year, I never thought I would come back to this family. And now that I have, how can I leave - again? :'( My bosses, ex and now has been so incredibly kind to let me know they are leaving their doors open. Whether or not I come back and work after graduation is definitely something I'd consider seriously. And then of course there is this eternal dilemma - marketing or communications? I have 1.5 more years to figure that out. For now, I am only thankful for these two wonderful internship opportunities; I didn't have to put in much effort to get them but so much has been given to me in return. x

My 21st birthday was a simple affair. I like it this way, with only the people that matter, and over meals so I have the chance to really talk to them. I know I said I wanted to do a full post on it but there isn't really much to say, except that it was a great birthday! My colleagues were really sweet, they brought me to Imperial Treasures for lunch, all the while pretending we were going to eat at the team dining room. And I only realized after the reason why they chose to eat there was because one time during lunch I commented about how I was craving for dimsum :') On thursday night the folks came to my house to surprise me also, thank you all so much! ♥ Through the weekend and the week after it was a series of meals with friends, some of which I'm glad I reconnected with.

P.S. I realized I'm always ditching this space because I've become twitter/instagram obsessed. Everything I post there, I'd just be duping the info here :( I'd try to blog more!

Just thoughts

People who disappoint. People you love. Sad thing is more often than not, the more you love someone, the more they disappoint you.

I'm terribly sorry this space has been so neglected. Just haven't the time or energy to sit down and do a proper blogpost. Promise I'd do so by this week. Till then, xx!

Meanwhile I just wanted to share my phone modding (short for modification) journey here. For those of you who don't know, I recently jailbroke my phone and then started a whole mad addictive process of adding tweaks and theming my applications and stuff. About 2 years ago when I had my 3GS, I jailbroke it too, but back then the processes were much more tedious and complicated, now everything's fairly easy. Whenever I get a new iPhone I always start off having no intention of jailbreaking it. Then as time passes and I go two months into usage, I get sick of it and most of the time have zero interest in fiddling with my phone, sometimes even to text. That's when I knw jailbreaking has to step in!

When people ask if I can help them to jailbreak and do the same for their phone, I give them a mild incredulous expression that strongly suggests they fuck off. Fine, I don't but I won't. Its way too much work AND you have no idea how much time I spent trolling the web for nice themes and tweaks before mine looks the way it does, and you just get all that gorgeousness without sweatin' it out? Dreaming mate.

I believe its only when you've immersed yourself in the art of modding that you earn the right to show it off and be a proud mum. As a disclaimer I'd like to state that although you might dislike my mods, I LOVE EM. But of course I'd like to believe most of you share my love as well. So, here are some screenshots from my current state.

So pretty no?! I'm have so much incentive to use my phone now!

A lot of stuff is mid-way through modding, and I focus more on the graphical than functional aspects. As seen a lot of themers out there share kitty love and hence I try to inject a bit of other colours wherever possible to balance out the majority pink, like my tweetbot and instagram app. Tweetbot is a Twitter client I've switched to using recently as its more intuitive and I like the picture preview for tweets.

That's all for now!
