I spent a bomb in sephora yesterday on these three products! Had to do a blog post on them cause I'm so so happy with these.

Amazing Concealer
When I first heard of this brand I was really quite skeptical because 1. I've never heard of it (but that's just cause I'm ignorant) and 2. I generally don't trust brands which uses positive adjectives like these, because if they don't live up to their name (pun!), its doubly embarrassing. But after hearing all the rave reviews about it, I had to try it! I was looking for a heavy coverage concealer and this definitely was that. All my touche eclat-esque light reflective concealer pens were just not doing a very good job at concealing and they slide right off after a few hours even when I set with powder.. I tried this yesterday and didn't set with powder, after 5-6 hours it was still looking good although it has faded a little. This really covers ALL pigmentation/blemishes, and is also buildable. It is extremely extremely expensive ($42), probably one of the most expensive products I own considering its only 6 grams!! A little goes a long way with this though so I think it'd still give me some mileage. I'm really impressed with the range this concealer has. It comes in 10 different shades, 5 with pink undertones and 5 with yellow undertones. I specifically chose the pink undertone one cause it works a lot better with my skin.

Benefit They're Real mascara
Also another highly raved product. I always do a fair bit of research on makeup that I buy, so I know what kind of skin it works on and what to expect. I'm very nitpicky when it comes to mascaras because I like a specific kind of effect - it has to be non clumpy, volumizing, defining, lengthening (not very particular abt this, my lashes are quite long by nature) and not give me spidery looking lashes. I know, it sounds like everything you could ever look for? Hahaha but some mascaras have worked for me and I wanted to see if this would do the same!

I didn't go to school with makeup yesterday so it was quite the perfect opportunity to try the mascara in Sephora. After curling my lashes with the eyelash curler I applied this and voila!! Amazing looking lashes. The brush is really special and different, it has tiny spikes on it instead of bristles and it could really separate and define each lash really well! Because of the lack of bristles, it was a very compact brush and there was no accidental smudging during application at all. I was like, I have to buy this. I'm sold. I knew it was $35 so imagine my joy when I went to the benefit counter and saw them in this cute bumper pack, containing a full sized one AND a travel sized one - for $36! I was ecstatic.

When I went home and was removing the mascara, it came off easily with some makeup remover. Also amazing, a wonderful break from Maybelline's The Falsies because omg while that formula was waterproof, it was a pain in the ass to remove.

Oscar Blandi Volumzing Dry Shampoo
Firstly, I would like to commend the person who invented dry shampoo.. Clean, nice smelling hair even without bathing?? Sounds gross but its a very nice option considering girls shouldn't wash their hair every day! I was actually all ready to pay for my items when I was browsing the hair section and realized Sephroa actually stocks Oscar Blandi.. Immediately I knew I would be spending more money hahaha. This has a really nice fragance, cleanses and really volumizes my hair! Plus, it leaves no residue, which is such a nice surprise. It is not sticky, nor clumpy at all. Literally feels like you rolled out of the bath and blowdried your hair. They also have a shine spray and serum I really want to try.. But for now I'd work with these new products I'm loving!

Art of Brick Opening Night x Cheryl's Birthday

Quick post before studying!

Last Friday I attended the opening ceremony of the Art of Brick exhibition in ArtScience Museum. While I was interning there I actually did quite a bit of research on this exhibition and the artist, Nathan Sawaya cause we had to brainstorm for the marketing plans for this.. And now finally seeing everything come to fruition is extremely rewarding and exciting!

I must say that having attended my fair share of museum opening nights and vip parties, this one topped the game. There was a surprise in every corner, and everything was done so thematically well and was overall a really enjoyable experience. Even titanic/harry potter wasn't as good. I'd explain what I mean..

The holding area was in the lobby, which had a photowall with a professional photographer snapping pictures of guests. The photowall was really pretty!

The photos were then quickly developed in a booth situated right beside the photowall, and placed into these lovely lego photo frames for each guest. We had similar party favors for Magnum and Harry Potter but this was by far my favorite. It's so cute and fun! The kids loved it, a lot of them were walking around to show off the photo frames to random guests lol.

The treats on the cocktail table this time were colored mnms and gummy bears.. Again, tying in with the colorful theme.

One of the rarer times where I took a photo with my s3 and didn't need a filter ;) I didn't actually want to wear my hair with the fringe up, but I went to a salon prior to the event to do a treatment and haircut, and my fringe had a weird kink in it so I was forced to. I really liked the makeup I did on myself that night!

So after the official opening speech and all, all the guests were brought up to the fourth floor. I haven't had the time to go upstairs and see what was going on, so when I stepped out of the lift at the fourth floor, I was SO impressed! The lobby was bathed in this gorgeous blue/purple light, and this massive ice bar greeted us. The cocktails were wonderful , and if you look carefully you see these round circular ice blocks between the cocktail glasses.. because the whole bar is a huge ice lego block!

There are two galleries on the 4th floor. In expression, we usually have these boring wooden benches, but it was switched out to these beautiful colored seats that changes colour! Again, amazing, and completely suitable for the theme.

In front of the seats, there was  a slideshow showing the pictures taken at the event. A really nice touch! The photog's camera must have been hooked up to the system. A nice surprise for all guests to see themselves on the big screen. Of course, I had to snap a few shots when our photos came up teehee. A live band was also entertaining the guests in this gallery.

Near the colored seats, MICE chefs were serving these cute as hell mini lego cakes.. Is anything cuter than this?? This is selling in sweetspot at $9 per cake, hahaha.

In the other gallery, inspiration, huge tables were set up for the canapes. We had a dj booth spinning music and at the far end of the room, an interactive space where guests can sign on lego blocks, and create their own art pieces on the lego wall.

I finally made myself some time to see the actual exhibit on the third floor. I hurried through and didn't really have time to see all the sculptures in detail, but each of the galleries were decorated really well. This t-rex gallery has got to be my favorite! The sculpture was really big in person, about 5-6m in length I think!

This is also one of the rare times photography is allowed, so all visitors can snap away without being reminded by our VSAs not to haha.

More snaps of the night. We had to take one with the man of the hour, Nathan. I rly have no idea how he can conceptualize building all these amazing 3d sculptures made up of such a small building brick!! He is really really tall in person, and is also incredibly humble and friendly.

After introducing myself to Nathan of course I had to take the opportunity to get a solo pic. YESSA! This photo was beautifully taken by the photographer, my only regret was my shiny forehead hahaha. I was so silly!! I brought makeup to touchup, and forgot to bring my brushes to touchup with. :( So I had all the products, but no tools to apply them with..

I just had to put these up, cause these polaroids were so cute!! I snagged them all to keep, loved how they turned out.

Towards the night of the night when most guests has already left the party, we hung around in the expression gallery and everyone had a drop too many. (I was completely sober cause I stayed off alcoholic drinks the whole night, my body still hasn't recovered) So all the bosses were deliriously happy and high, resulted in a lot of laughs because they behaved completely off tangent. They deserved to have all the fun though, I know they worked really hard this period of time trying to put everything together and I must say, it completely paid off because the whole experience was incredible, everything well thought out and put together. This is actually the last event the events manager, Tiana is taking up before she's leaving to join another company (lady in the bottom right polaroid with me above) and I am so so happy for her because her last party here she's in charge of is so so successful, and she has left big shoes for her successor to fill.

A few things also happened that night which made me really, really happy and the night all the more perfect.

And some photos from cheryl's birthday party! This polaroid came from adie's hugeass polaroid camera, twice the size of the normal polaroid shots. Really good picture!

Some folks I haven't seen in a really long time.. My eyes look really sleepy here hahaha

And the cute lil birthday girl!!

On a completely random note, I mentioned how I loved my makeup for the opening party? I got many compliments that night and I was really happy w my makeup.. I didn't change much from my normal evening makeup routine except this time, I used individual false lashes and let me tell you.. They have revolutionized my makeup arsensal and technique.

On the occasions I use false lashes in the past, I always used the strip versions and though they were beautiful, they created a more dramatic effect and it is immediately obvious that you're using false lashes.. But with individual false lashes the effect created is simply natural, and yet glamourous and dramatic at the same time because you cannot see the lashbone against the lashline (in other words, almost invisible) . I've never used individual lashes much because they are extremely difficult to use, and require a lot of skill and practice which I never had.

But I finally learnt how to do it right and I am never going back to strip lashes!! I took this photo after I came home from the party that night and everything was still in place and lovely. Made my eyes look a lot bigger as well. I only applied the lashes and mascared them out. Just.. mad love!! I used longer individual lashes near the outer corners, and shorter ones as I moved in towards the nose to create a more dramatic evening look. I'm really good at applying these lashes to my left eye cause I'm left handed, but with the right eye its a bit challenging but you can always keep trying!

On another occassion I used the lashes as well, only this time it was a day event and so I used the shorter lashes throughout.. again you can see how natural it is. Kind of just looks like you're born with really full and long lashes.

That's all for the post today, got to get back to studying! xx take care
Smudents
Saturday, November 10, 2012

No offense. But I really get super annoyed when SMU kids keep going on and on about how incredibly competitive it is over there. Yes, because competition apparently only exists in SMU. And you guys are always slammed with SO much work and projects, and in NTU/NUS life is all dandy and no projects exist. Boohoo.

Yes, I believe that in SMU, it is overcompetitive, in comparison to NUS or NTU. There are a lot of hardworking students who work incredibly hard, and I acknowledge that. But it doesn't only happen in SMU! This is when all SMU students get defensive and say "Ya but sure not as hiong as SMU" Yes maybe, but for the most part the situation is magnified because SMU students can't stop talking (complaining) about it.

At the end of the day, you say I'm saying all these cause I'm not a student there myself and won't be able to understand. But going on and on about it, using it as the first line of defense/attack in every conversation isn't going to help me understand. I don't want to understand either, so you can stop talking about it.

Stress exists in every school. Stop kidding yourself that its only in SMU. Don't keep talking about how stressful it is just to make yourself feel better that you're surviving in this crazy rat race.
So people were asking me, repeatedly

There is nothing to crave because there is no void to fill. I never believed in letting myself enter the race just because there's chances of one in a million. It comes when it comes, and at that time I will embrace it with open arms.
Problem

Recently I've been very alarmed by the deteriorating state of my hair. To be honest my hair's always been one of the things I've been proud of having. Its naturally straight, deceivingly shiny, and amazingly resilient (considering all the dyeing and bleaching I've been making it go through). And I guess I've always had ok hair without trying too hard so I always took it for granted.. Now, its so damaged!! Esp the ends, they are super dry and my hair ruffles so much more easily than before. But I also know its cause I haven't been taking care of my hair recently and the fact that I tong/blowdry it so often doesn't help. Just writing this down to remind myself to give all the love I can to my hair, you deserve it and please recover soon :'( xx
